The Shirley Family

The Shirley family will be working with World Wide Village to develop Student Impact Teams to serve in Haiti and locally in Florida.

We consider them to be proven leaders with passion and experience to lead students in their spiritual growth as well as to help others.

Please consider contributing to their financial needs as they move forward.

  • Experiencing the Mission

    Posted a week ago

When I talk with youth leaders one of the things we discuss is finding ways for students to understand what it means to serve God. Since I was a Freshman in high school I have been on a variety of mission trips and service projects. What I have seen over the years is how students will rise to the occasion when given a chance to serve others. Sometimes it is through service such as home repair, painting, or cleaning. Other times it is through sitting with someone who has gone through a disaster and letting them tell their story.
As we debrief about the trip, the students will talk about what they felt and heard, and then they talk about how God was able to use that to open their eyes to His love a little more.
Youth leaders want their students to be good people, but more importantly they want them to be godly people. They want them to have a Christlike heart that wants to grow in their knowledge of Christ and share the Gospel with those in their circle.
Yesterday as I talked with a youth leader about what he is doing with their students we talked about an opportunity coming up for students to be trained to share Christ for a large event. He said, " I want to be a part of that". What a cool response and what a call to action for his students.
When students learn to be "On Mission" wherever they are, they begin to see others as Jesus sees them. That is our goal because that is the goal given to us, to go and make Disciples!

  • It's Cold but we are warming up.

    Posted a week ago

For many it has been a bitter cold week with a few more days of it ahead. In Florida we have been on the chilly side but not quite the same. I pray that each of you stay warm and that your cars start easily and that your furnaces stay working well. I remember it all too well.

Since Summer is not far off we are getting our plans together for the summer Mission trips here in Florida. We are calling it Mission 3-2-1 (Space Coast etc.) We are planning for 6-8 weeks of VBS and service projects in the area. Please pray for the students who will come to serve and also pray for the Churches, communities and the kids where they will serve. Our goal is to be Salt & Light and to make an impact that will last.
We will also be looking for 3-5 College Interns to be our staff this summer. If you know of any guys or girls who would be interested in a Summer Internship here in Florida please let me know or have them contact me.

Thanks for your continued prayers for me, Andra and the boys. We continue to watch God work in wonderful ways and we are excited for the run up to summer.
Stay warm and let me know if there is anything you can use prayer for.

  • Merry Christmas and now Happy New Year!

    Posted a week ago

Wow, what a fast year it has been. I can't believe Christmas is already over and the New Year is a few days away.
I want to say Thank You for your support and encouragement this past year and I so look forward to sharing what God is doing in the coming year. He is already at work preparing the ministry that will take place and the lives that will be changed.
Please continue to pray for us as we follow God's lead and create an environment of service for students to step in to. I think back to some of the times I was asked to help out when I was in Jr. Hi and High School. It was a great time of working hard, but what made it so great is that my youth leader was challenging and encouraging me to grow deeper in my relationship with Christ. He showed me that serving others in the name of Christ would change me too!

Happy New Year and I thank God for you!

    In Him,

    Phil

  • Thanksgiving is almost here!

    Posted a week ago

Sometimes it amazes me how fast the years go by. I found a picture of my boys from 9 years ago in front of Ron Jons surf shop here in Cocoa Beach. Luke and Logan are just a bit taller now! With the Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching we are finding ways to serve others in the community. On Sunday the men's group from our church served breakfast for dinner to homeless folks at a ministry called His Place. It was awesome to see all the people who showed up and to be just a small part of being an encouragement. Luke and Logan were helping as well. I am so excited as we build up to this season and look for ways God will use us in the coming month.
Have a great day and stay warm if you are someplace cold.

    In Him,

    Phil
