Baby Garcon was born six weeks early by emergency c-section when his mother developed preeclampsia. Preeclampsia – evidenced by high blood pressure – can lead to serious, even fatal, complications for both mother and baby.
Thanks to your support of the Healthy Mothers + Healthy Babies program, Baby Garcon’s mother was transported to a hospital for an emergency c-section, saving both mother & baby. Once delivered, Baby Garcon spent time in the NICU and his family learned of his club foot.
Baby Garcon’s father is a young entrepreneur who started a sandal business many years ago. His business is going well, but during these difficult times in Haiti he just earns enough for the essentials. The medical costs of the emergency c-section, a stay in the NICU and ongoing care for Baby Garcon’s club foot are just too much for this young family living in rural Haiti. These bills equal nearly six months of salary.
