Cervical Cancer Screening:

The wait is over and the cervical cancer screening kits have arrived in Haiti! Our medical team on the ground this week, along with our WWV nurses, will begin the process of screening women ages 21-50 for HPV – Human Papilloma Virus – which causes cervical cancer.

With Haiti having the highest reported rate of cervical cancer in the world, World Wide Village is partnering with Haiti Sans Cervical Cancer – a group from Duke University – to identify and treat early signs of this disease.

Cervical cancer, known as a silent killer, can be stopped by early detection and treatment. World Wide Village is working to fight this cancer in Haiti… a cancer that can be extremely painful for women in advanced stages.

Sewing School:

The sewing school is flourishing and the young women in the program have been working hard sewing school uniforms for area students. As part of the sewing school, the young women are not only learning the intricacies of sewing, but also how to run a small business. It is so important for them to understand how to price items to earn a profit, how to track expenses, tracking profit and loss and more. What a blessing the sewing program is for these women.

Picture Day!

“Say cheese!”  Many students in the WWV schools had picture day last week. We are so thankful for a recent Impact Team that led the way in getting hundreds of photos of the students in our schools. Sponsors, be on the lookout in your mailboxes in November for new school photos!  What a joy it is to watch the students grow and change year to year.
