PRAY FOR HAITI
Join us in praying for the people and country of Haiti each week. Ask God to intervene on behalf of a country facing uncertainty, violence and turmoil. As Haiti continues to struggle, pray that God would do what might look impossible – bring peace and justice. Bondye kapab – God is able!
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21
PEACE FROM GOD
The city of Mirebalais in Haiti was overtaken by gangs several weeks ago. It was terrifying for everyone in that area and a bold move by gangs from Port-au-Prince as they gain more ground. Rumors are spreading about where the gang might hit next and many families in our area are concerned. Pray that believers in Williamson and Luly would have a peace that surpasses all understanding and not be afraid, giving hope to others around them.
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
HEALTH
Please pray for children in Haiti facing serious health conditions. As more and more hospitals are shuttered due to gang violence, many children who need specialized care are suffering. A baby born with hydrocephalus, a teenage boy with a strangulated hernia, a young girl with an infected VP shunt and a young man with hard-to-control type 1 diabetes are just a few of those in our WWV programs who are struggling. Please pray that God would be with them as they face difficult procedures and many barriers to receiving adequate healthcare.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
LEADERS
Today, please pray for leaders inside of Haiti and outside of Haiti who can provide solutions for peace in this gang ravaged country. Pray that these leaders would be led by mercy, compassion and wisdom as they deal with the ongoing turmoil and devastation. Pray that they would be governed by love and the desire for peace instead of hatred and fear as they bring solutions to restore Haiti.
1 Timothy 2:1-4
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
DELIVERANCE
Psalm 107 is a beautiful picture of God’s deliverance. It says that there were “some who wandered in desert wastelands”, “hungry and thirsty.” There were others who “sat in darkness” who were “prisoners in affliction.” How did those in trouble respond to their suffering? The psalmist says that they “cried out to the Lord in their trouble.” Each time those in distress cried out to the Lord in this psalm, God delivered them. He “satisfied their soul”, “brought them out of darkness” and “broke their chains.” Today we pray that those in distress in Haiti would cry out to the Lord for help because we know that God will answer their cry by offering salvation and deliverance.
BIBLE SEMINAR
Thank God today that our Haitian staff members were able to attend a Bible Seminar this past week. Pray that God would strengthen them and encourage them as they study His Word. Ask God to light their path with His wisdom as they lead World Wide Village in Haiti.
Psalm 119:105
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path.”
EXTREME POVERTY
Today, thank God that even in times of need, despair and brokenness, He is there. Ask God to put His arms around children and families living in extreme poverty in Haiti so they feel comfort and hope. Ask God to guide those of us who are in a position to help so we can be His hands and feet, upholding the cause of the needy.
Psalm 140:12
“I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.”
ILLNESS
In low-income nations like Haiti, children under five are already at heightened risk for malnutrition, diarrheal diseases, and pneumonia brought on by contaminated water and inadequate shelter. Many displaced children also don’t have access to medicines or clinics if they fall ill. Pray today that God would protect children in Haiti from illness and heal boys and girls who have fallen ill. Ask God to help their little bodies fight off sickness and disease.
Psalm 103:2-3
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.”
LIVING DISPLACED
Today, pray for God to watch over children and families in Haiti who have been forced to leave their homes. Ask Him to shelter their souls and their bodies and heal the hearts of those who have endured unimaginable tragedy. Ask God to give them resiliency in the face of difficulties, and praise Him that He is close to the brokenhearted.
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
SOLUTIONS
When people turn to violence, it’s often because they feel that there is no other solution to their problems. Today, ask God to intervene in Haiti. Lord, where there is a history of pain, we ask for You to bring forgiveness. Where there is injustice, we ask for You to bring fairness and a just solution. Where there are differences, we ask for You to bring reconciliation. Where there is not enough resources or opportunities, we ask for You to provide.
Psalm 46:6
“Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the earth melts.”
LIGHT OVERCOMES DARKNESS
Today, praise God for light overcoming the darkness in Haiti. Just last week two followers of Haitian Vodou became followers of Jesus Christ as the church in Bail, Haiti continues to share the gospel and spread the good news!
John 1:5
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
THE YEAR AHEAD
As we head into a new year, ask God to end the gang war in Haiti. Pray that God would help those in power – both gang leaders and government leaders – to be motivated by love and the desire for peace instead of hatred and fear.
Psalm 46:9
“He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.”
