BACK TO SCHOOL

As students head back to school next week we ask for prayer for them, their teachers and families in rural Haiti. This is our prayer for the new school year… Lord, as school begins in Haiti, we thank you for every unique child in the WWV schools. We ask that You fill each student with fresh enthusiasm and a heart that is excited to learn and grow. Cover them with your enduring love, give them confidence and grace, and equip them with the ability to persevere through trials. Bless their teachers with wisdom, understanding and a heart to serve. Amen!

Our World Wide Village Haitian staff have been working overtime to make sure all of our students are ready for school!  As you know, the country of Haiti has been hit hard over the last year with political issues, violence, food shortages, inflation and the recent earthquake. This has made it very difficult for families to afford school essentials and school tuition. We are so thankful for your generosity toward the people of Haiti allowing many students and families to receive help with food, uniforms, backpacks and schoolbooks over the last several months. We simply couldn’t do it without you!

Meet some of the students who have recently received uniforms and schoolbooks to prepare for the upcoming year:

Four siblings from the Isaac Family recently lost their mother to an illness and their father is struggling to provide as he cannot work due to a painful hernia. He is on a waiting list for surgery, but in the meantime needs help to make sure his children have everything they need to attend school. Kiara Cenat is the 3-year-old girl of a single mother struggling to provide. Preschool will give Kiara a head start at a good education and brighter future!  Rosemathe Joassine lost both of her parents in just two years and is being raised by her older sister. She missed two years of school due to life circumstances but now has a sponsor and all of the supplies she needs to start school.

On behalf of these students and hundreds more like them in Williamson & Luly, THANK YOU!

Meet Laurah Charlesin!

Laurah Charlesin is 21 years old and grew up in Williamson, Haiti. She excelled in school as a young student and loved math. Laurah has had amazing family support as she worked hard to finish school.

Attending college is only a dream for most students living in rural Haiti. There are many barriers to continuing an education… competition for the limited spots at the universities, transportation to and from school, not to mention the financial barriers.

Until last year, Laurah was able to overcome these barriers with financial help from her extended family.  This year was a different story as life in Haiti has become very difficult for many families in rural Haiti. Thanks to our faithful supporters, financial struggles will not keep Laurah from achieving her dreams of continuing her college education!

Laurah is now in her second year at Université Autonome De Port-au-Prince studying Commercial Economics and Management. She is so grateful for the opportunity to continue her education and pursue her dreams. Laurah shares her thanks…
