Five years ago, before this little girl was first sponsored, there were many people in her village who did not believe she could succeed. They believed she would follow in the footsteps of her family members who never had the opportunity to learn to read or write. They assumed she would continue in the cycle of illiteracy and poverty that is all too common in Haiti.
But Emmania’s grandmother had a different dream for her grandchildren. Although unable to afford school tuition for her young granddaughter, she strongly desired for Emmania to go to school. Children like Emmania are exactly the reason that World Wide Village started a student sponsorship program in rural Haiti so many years ago.

Thanks to the World Wide Village Student Sponsorship program, Emmania now attends school right up the road from her house each day in Williamson. She’s learning to read and write, which is something others in her family have not been able to do. Emmania’s younger sisters and cousins are also now sponsored, and she helps make sure they get to school each day. Emmania wants to be a teacher when she grows up and when asked how we can pray for her, she asked us to pray that she would continue to do well in school.

Emmania’s sponsors have shown her so much love throughout the years. They make monthly donations to the student sponsorship program, write encouraging letters and send small gifts. They have even traveled to Haiti to meet Emmania and serve in her community. Knowing that someone across the globe cares so much has given Emmania the extra confidence she needs to succeed.
It’s not always easy for children who are the first in their family to attend school, but after five years Emmania is proving many people wrong. Thanks to her sponsors who give generously each month, Emmania is breaking the cycle of illiteracy and poverty in her family. Congratulations to Emmania on a job well done! We are excited to see what God has for her future.
