For many of us, a broken bone is painful and inconvenient, but we trust that a trip to the hospital, surgery if needed, and physical therapy will help us heal. In rural Haiti, the story is often very different. When a child suffers a serious injury, families are forced to make impossible choices.

Most simply cannot afford transportation to a hospital, surgery or follow-up care. Without treatment, a broken leg or ankle can heal incorrectly, leaving a child with permanent pain, limited mobility, or the inability to walk normally for the rest of their life.

That heartbreaking reality nearly became the story of Vaguens Fleuridor, a sponsored student in our program.

Several months ago, Vaguens was involved in a moto accident that left him with two severely broken bones in his leg and ankle. His injuries required surgery, something his family could never have afforded on their own.

Each month when you donate to the World Wide Village Sponsorship Program, a portion of your donations are saved for healthcare costs for students in our program.

Because Vaguens is sponsored, he was blessed with the funds to travel to a hospital in Saint-Marc and receive the surgery he desperately needed. Today, he is recovering well.

This is one of the beautiful things about child sponsorship that many people never see. It creates a safety net when life takes an unexpected turn.

Over the years students have suffered broken legs, broken arms, and even broken jaw bones. Students have needed intraventricular shunts, treatment for malaria, tuberculosis and more.

Vaguens and his family are incredibly grateful for the love and support they have received. Their story is a powerful reminder that sponsorship isn’t just about helping a child get through school, but it’s about walking alongside them through life’s greatest challenges.

Thank you, sponsors!
