What can one act of generosity accomplish?

Just ask Mariemode!

For years, Mariemode faced the daily challenges of poverty. Like so many families she worked hard every day just to put food on the table, some days unable to accomplish even that. But when she received a WWV microgrant, she saw the possibilities.

She started small, selling food staples at the local market. With every sale, she reinvested her profits. Little by little, her business grew.

Soon, Mariemode was traveling into the mountains to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and even pigs directly from local farmers, then bringing them back to market to sell in town.

In Haiti, women who transport goods from the farm fields to bustling marketplaces are affectionately known as Madan Sara – resourceful entrepreneurs who keep the country’s economy moving. Mariemode was quickly earning that title.

But she wasn’t finished.

Because one successful business wasn’t enough, she planted a garden of her own. Today she’s growing melons, bananas, and other crops that will feed her family and provide even more income.

Mariemode has become a true entrepreneur. That’s the beauty of a microgrant. It isn’t simply a handout; it’s a spark. In the hands of someone like Mariemode, that spark can grow into a thriving business, greater financial stability, and renewed hope for an entire family.
