In rural villages of Haiti, children walk long paths to school each morning, some with tattered shoes, some sharing worn notebooks, but hopefully carrying something far greater than their supplies: hope!
For many families living in rural Haiti, sending a child to school feels like a distant dream. Poverty, lack of access, and the ongoing instability in the country make it difficult for parents to afford tuition or supplies. Yet when a door to education opens through sponsorship, everything begins to change—not just for a child, but for an entire family.
Education is more than learning to read or write. It’s about giving a child the confidence to stand tall, lift their chin, and believe that their life holds value and purpose. In a place where the daily challenges are immense, school becomes a sanctuary – a place where children are reminded that their future is not defined by poverty or circumstance.
Ferlanda Polisma was born just 11 days after the devastating earthquake in January of 2010. Now 16 years old, she is striving to accomplish something that the rest of her family never had the opportunity to achieve – graduation!
