If you’ve been keeping up with the news you have probably heard that the nation of Haiti continues to experience uncertainty and struggle due to protests over the current economic and political situation. Roads are blocked by those in opposition to the current government which is creating food scarcity and soaring prices, especially in rural areas like Williamson and Luly. Life is on hold as children and teachers are unable to get to school and work.

As a sponsor you might be wondering, “How is World Wide Village using my student sponsorship donations while the students are unable to attend to school?”

We’re glad you asked! World Wide Village leadership has decided to continue paying teachers and school staff even though they are unable to work at this time. The current economic state in Haiti is making life very difficult for many people, so we feel paying our teachers and staff is the right thing to do.

We are hopeful that school will start again soon and peace will return to Haiti. There are rumors of school starting in January and continuing into August so the children are able to have a full year of school, but only time will tell. Even with school not in session, we hope to provide lunches for our sponsored students as soon as the roads are open for supplies to get though. For right now we wait and pray.

Haiti needs your prayers!  Please visit our most recent blog post, Facebook or Instagram for specific ways you can be praying for Haiti during this time. We will continue to keep you updated on the situation as we know more. Thank you so much for your continued support of education in Haiti. In the midst of a difficult situation, it truly does make a difference!
