In the mountains of Bail-Savanette, the members of Agape Victory Church recently came together with the community for a konbit, a beautiful Haitian tradition of neighbors joining hands to accomplish a task too great for one person alone. It is a powerful picture of community, generosity, and serving one another.
In the video above, Pastor Martin says, “Good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning! We are in Bail-Savanette. My wife and I are in Bail-Savanette. Why are we meeting this morning? We constructed this road two years ago on May 1, 2024. Unfortunately, it has been eroded by rain.” He then he goes on to say how the community has come together in a beautiful way to fix the road leading to Agape Victory Church!
On Saturday, the community worked side by side to improve the road washed out by heavy rain. They also cleared land to create a small road to the future site of a new community school that is expected to open this fall! In this rural mountain community, where educational opportunities are scarce, this school will provide children with the chance to learn close to home and build a brighter future.
As they worked, the mountains echoed with the rhythmic songs and singing that have long been part of a traditional konbit (see video above!). The steady beat helped everyone move together in unison, turning hard labor into a joyful expression of unity and shared purpose. When the work was finished, everyone gathered to share a meal – their only payment for the work – celebrating what had been accomplished.
