Sometimes life brings you to a fork in the road. Which direction you choose can be a defining moment in your life. For Makenson Francois, the oldest of four children in rural Haiti, your generosity brought one such decision at just nine years of age.

Four years ago, Makenson often spent his days collecting wood for making charcoal. He lived a simple, yet hard life in Williamson Haiti. He had no hope of attending school because his parents were extremely poor, and school tuition was too far out of reach.

At nine years old, Makenson was already four years behind in school. It would be impossible for him to catch up with his peers on his own. Yet that’s exactly what you are doing when you support families in Haiti… helping make the impossible, possible!

As Makenson approached his 10th birthday, he stood at a crossroads. He could continue the only life he knew, helping his dad make charcoal, or he could embrace an opportunity from World Wide Village to attend school, even though it seemed intimidating.

The first road would mean continuing in the cycle of illiteracy and poverty that plagued his family for generations. The second road could lead to many opportunities if he was able to persevere and work hard.

Praise God that Makenson chose the unknown, yet exciting path of learning!

All three Francois boys spent the summer with a World Wide Village tutor, working tirelessly to learn everything they missed in preschool and Kindergarten. They boys were hungry to learn and worked hard to be ready when school started in the fall!

Before school officially started, all three boys were chosen for sponsorship. The joy on their faces when they were told the news was priceless!

The road to learning hasn’t been without challenges, but today, Makenson and his siblings continue to thrive in their educational journey, all thanks to your unwavering support.

Your contributions have also gone beyond schooling, offering goats to the family and a microgrant for their father’s small business. Today, he generates a steady income selling his roasted peanuts and cold sodas. Read his story here!

Your support for Haitian families is transforming lives, and Makenson’s story is a living testament to this. Thank you for creating new roads for children like Makenson to walk on toward a brighter future.
