We often say that when you sponsor a child, you provide help for today, hope for tomorrow, and faith for eternity. But what does that look like in the life of a child in Haiti?
Seven years ago, Abdaina Luc was just 8 years old and in 2nd grade at the Armee du Salut school in Luly, Haiti. She lived with her mom and little sister and hoped to become a teacher someday.
Like many children at her school, Abdaina’s family struggled to afford school tuition. Because countless families lived in poverty and could not afford to pay for learning, the school was at risk of shutting down.
At that time, a wonderful sponsor stepped in and has been providing school tuition for Abdaina over the last seven years – a tremendous blessing for Abdaina and her family! Sponsorship also helped to keep the doors of Armee du Salut School open.
HELP FOR TODAY:
Fast forward seven years, and families in Luly are facing unimaginable hardships. Abdaina’s family was even forced to flee their home last fall. While many families had nowhere to turn, Abdaina and her family received help through emergency food packs.
Your help and generosity kept her family going through very dark days.
Today, Abdaina is back home and back in school. Her teacher says she is joyful and a good friend to all. Her nickname is even Tamounmoun, which means “everyone” in Haitian Creole.
HOPE FOR TOMORROW:
Abdaina is in 9th grade this year – a very important year for students in Haiti. At the end of this school year she will take a national exam for admittance into high school (grades 10-13).
This is a milestone that many children in rural Haiti never reach because the high cost of secondary school and exam fees stop many students from continuing in school.
Having the opportunity to attend high school provides “hope for tomorrow” because graduation will finally be within reach!

There is something even more important than “help for today” and “hope for tomorrow” that a sponsorship provides. That is the opportunity to learn about God’s love!
Attending a Christ-centered school and regularly having the chance to attend Youth Bible Clubs are pointing Abdaina toward Christ.
