ROBIN’S NEST SEWING CENTER:

Seven students are learning a new vocation this year at the Robin’s Nest Sewing Center! Even though the sewing center has been forced to relocate twice over the last two years due to gang violence, students continue to learn a skill that will give them a wonderful vocation in Haiti! Visit worldwidevillage.org/robins-nest to read about what students are learning this year!

EDUCATION:

Students in Haiti started their last trimester of the school year. While schools in the U.S. are wrapping up, classes in Haiti will continue into July. Did you know that schools in Haiti go through grade 13?

Primary school in Haiti consists of grades 1-6. Then students move into secondary school for grades 7-9. At the end of 9th grade all students in Haiti must take a national exam for admittance into high school. High school consists of grades 10-13. At the end of high school, students take another national exam for admittance into college. Now you know!

The picture below shows students who earned the top score in their class for second trimester exams at the Luly School. Many of these students are part of our sponsorship program! It’s a blessing to know that their hard work and talent is not wasted due to poverty. A special thanks to our sponsors for making this possible!

MATRON TRAINING:

Thanks to you, a new training kicked off this month for local birth attendants known as “matrons” in Haiti. Mothers in rural Haiti often choose to deliver their babies at home with local birth attendants, but many have no formal training.

Our midwife and nurse at Sant Sante Espwa are providing training for these birth attendants, including education on current best-practices, how to identify high-risk situations, and much more. Thank you for helping promote healthy deliveries in rural Haiti!
