“Dèyè mòn gen mòn.” Behind mountains, more mountains. This well-known proverb in Haitian Creole can be a description of the endless mountain ranges in Haiti. On a deeper level, it reflects the insurmountable struggles that families face in Haiti.
Many Haitians can feel that behind one struggle, there will always be another. Over the last several years that has certainly been true. When you look closely at this proverb there is something that stands out… the absence of hope.
In the Bible, mountains often represent an immovable obstacle. When families in Haiti face mountain after mountain, these struggles can rob them of hope and lead to despair.
At World Wide Village we want our work in Haiti to instill hope. We want to stand on those insurmountable mountains facing our friends in Haiti and bring the good news – both in word and in deed. “Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace!” Nahum 1:15.
Thank you for standing on the mountains and bringing good news to the people of Haiti. We can’t say enough how thankful we are for your partnership. Your faithful, heartfelt giving is bringing hope through education, healthcare, and emergency assistance during this tumultuous time. Let’s help bring a new proverb to Haiti…
“Déyé món, se espwa.” Behind mountains, there is hope.
