“Can I pray directly to God? I feel so unworthy,” said the young Haitian woman sitting across from me in the World Wide Village medical center in Haiti. Hearing her question, I remembered the words from Matthew 27. I had just read those words in my quiet time at the World Wide Village guesthouse earlier that morning.

This young woman had come to the clinic for heartburn medication, but left the clinic hearing the good news of Easter!

“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split.”  Matthew 27:50-51

Easter opened the way for us to come to God.

“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God… Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14,16

Today, that young woman who understood the gospel for the first time can celebrate that Jesus is the payment for our sin. He is the One who was crucified, died, and rose again and is our Great High Priest. The curtain that once separated God’s presence from His people, only to be entered once per year by the High Priest, was torn from top to bottom!

As we celebrate Easter, let’s thank God that He opened a way for us to come to Him through Jesus Christ. Let’s also thank Him that He uses us as His ambassadors to share this good news with others.

Happy Easter from World Wide Village!
