Many of us have heard the parable of the Good Samaritan. In Luke 10, an expert in the Old Testament law stood up and asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Reciting the law to Jesus, the man said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” But he had a question… “Who is my neighbor?”

Jesus’ reply?

“In reply Jesus said: ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'”

Then Jesus asked, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

This month, you have an amazing opportunity to “go and do likewise.”  There are still hundreds of children in Luly, Haiti that do not have the opportunity to attend school.

This brand new elementary school – The Good Samaritan School – is working to change that!  With your support, this school will offer an education to many underprivileged students in Luly who struggle with poverty.

The Good Samaritan School opened in November and is already educating 50 young students. Many of these students come from poverty and cannot afford school tuition. Their parents sell fish in the market, repair shoes or work on a fishing boat to earn a living, but struggle to make ends meet.

Our prayer is to see ALL of these young students be blessed with a sponsorship!  For $32 per month, a sponsorship will allow the student to continue attending school without the burden of paying tuition, as well as receive a nutritious school lunch. This is such a tremendous blessing for a child in poverty.

This month, you can be a part of offering the same compassion and mercy given by the good Samaritan to these students in rural Haiti. By sponsoring a student or helping spread the word about sponsorship, you are most definitely loving your neighbor!
