It is always amazing to be able to earn a living doing what you love, and that’s exactly what Denis (pronounced “Denni”) is doing at World Wide Village! Denis Marie Louis started on staff with World Wide Village on December 4, 2011. She still remembers this date and what a joy it was to get the job managing the kitchen!

“I just love my job. I am good at it,” she says. We agree! Denis does a fantastic job managing the kitchen at the WWV guesthouse and cooking for our Impact Teams. She makes delicious traditional Haitian dishes and also has a way of adding a Haitian flare to traditional American food, as well.

Denis grew up with her aunt in Port-au-Prince. Her family went to church each Sunday. “I was going to church but didn’t understand what it meant to be a Christian,” she says.  Then one day, at age 15, it clicked, and she understood God’s salvation comes through grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

We are thankful that God has created Denis for the “good works” she is “walking in” with World Wide Village. Denis is always looking to improve her skills in cooking, so WWV will help her continue her training. The next time you come to Haiti you are sure to be blessed by her food. (Don’t expect to lose any weight!)  Denis is also celebrating one year of marriage. If the way to a man’s heart is truly through his stomach, we predict they will have a long and happy marriage!

Thanks, Denis, for sharing your passion of cooking with World Wide Village.
