If you grew up in a house like my childhood home, you probably heard something similar to this…. “Don’t eat the poinsettia, it’s poison”.
Although poinsettias are absolutely harmless, the fact is that poison control centers across the nation receive thousands of calls this time of year from panicked folks whose kid or dog ate the poinsettia.
And so the same goes with end of year fundraising. There are many myths, aphorisms, and the equivalent of “old wives tales”. Some true, some not, and for many non-profit leaders there’s a time for smiling and a time for sweat on the brow. The fact is….we count on your year-end gift to support around 20% of our programs for the year.
As 2017 comes to a close, we are thankful that a number of you have already made your gift in response to the request from Wosdana – isn’t she just adorable!
- Your $100 provides 455 hot meals for her school friends.
- Your gift of $500 delivers a sustainable business in the local market for a mother of five.
- Your commitment of $100/month during 2018 supplies cervical cancer screening for 120 women, who otherwise are at high-risk of dying from an undiagnosed malignancy.
Statistics show that 11% of all giving occurs in the last three days of December. I’m counting on YOU to be part of those statistics.
When I checked our numbers over the weekend, the sweat began to form….we are well short of the $25,000 goal. Which means the sustainable projects planned for early next year are in danger of being reduced and that breaks my heart.
Will you stand with Pat and me? To insure we can continue the important work for the Haitian people, I’ve taken a bold step. Over the past few days I’ve challenged a few of our loyal supporters and I’m ecstatic to share with you that all donations throughout the balance of 2017 and any monthly commitments for 2018, will be matched up to $20,000. But we need to hear from you before December 30th.
