Marie Clodette D’Haiti is no stranger to tragedy. Just two years ago her family lost everything in a devastating house fire. After the fire, Clodette’s first concern was a home for her family of six children. Using the little they had, she and her husband built a small structure with tarp walls, a tin roof and a dirt floor along the side of a hill in Williamson, Haiti. Yet when it rained, the water would rush through the dirt floor where they slept.

As a woman of faith, Marie Clodette cried out to God for another tarp to protect her family from the rain…

“One day as she’s laying on the ground, sleeping on the cold floor, her stomach is hurting, she’s hungry, she’s praying to the Lord… ‘Lord, please send someone my way. I don’t have a mother. I don’t have a father. I have nothing. I don’t have anything I can sell to take care of the kids.’”

“Then one day, World Wide Village came with a group and visited the house, and decided to bless them with the house. That’s why she’s crying these tears… tears of joy because she’s seen that if you believe in the Lord and trust in the Lord, and continue to pray and don’t give up. Eventually one day He will deliver you.”

As Marie Clodette and her husband – Dezira – began to rebuild their lives, Dezira unexpectedly passed away, pulling Marie Clodette and her six children even deeper into poverty. In the midst of these tragedies, Marie Clodette worried that her children would no longer be able to attend school without a husband to earn a living and make ends meet.

An education is so important in breaking the cycle of poverty in Haiti, and school is a priority in their lives. Praise God that six wonderful sponsors stepped up in their time of need and are providing an education for each of the D’Haiti children. Even the youngest – Jondon – was able to start preschool!

Marie Collette is beyond grateful for all of the help she has received over the last two years. Your support has provided a home, an education, food, clothing, uniforms for school and an answer to prayer for this wonderful family. Our amazing World Wide Village supporters continue to bless Collette during COVID-19 as she perseveres through difficult times, trusting God to meet her needs through wonderful people like you!

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory…!” Ephesians 3:20

“I asked God for a tarp. He gave me a house.”
