The Overtus sisters vividly understand the truth of this scripture. Katianna, Mirlanda & Blandine attend the WWV school in Williamson with their 2 younger siblings. They are learning and growing thanks to our wonderful student sponsors. “I like going to school,” says Mirlanda. “And I really love going to church,” she adds. Mirlanda has a beautiful voice and she loves singing praises to Jesus in their church choir.

While Mirlanda’s heart is filled with joy, life is not without struggle. Their hardworking father earns a living by caring for goats owned by others in his village. The work is steady, but the pay is low and it’s often hard to make ends meet.
The girls love learning and going to school, but there are times when the best part of their day is the hot lunch. “Sometimes when we are low on money, my mom will warm up salt water for us to drink to keep our stomachs full until we can have lunch at school,” says Mirlanda. “It’s OK,” she continues. “I know Jesus will provide. He always does.” Without school lunches, these children would have empty bellies.

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? … “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25
The Overtus family is not the only family in Haiti that struggles to provide food for their children. 87% of children in rural Haiti do not receive the minimum ration of daily food. This is why it is critical that World Wide Village provide nutritious food for the Armee du Salut – Luly school, as we do to the Williamson and Luly Schools.
